Why Self-Publish?

Why should you self-publish?
Well, if you imagine that a New York publisher is going to beat down your door, carry you off to Manhattan, wine you and dine you at some swanky restaurant, and then, after dinner, press a six-figure check into your quivering palm and beg you to allow it the privilege of publishing your first book…let me disabuse you of that notion right now.
But…that’s okay!  I’ve been traditionally published and I've been self-published and, let me tell you, self-publishing is the way to go. When you are self-published you call all the shots:  you write what you want, you design your own book (which is very exciting), and you market it yourself.  You control your own destiny!
I personally think being traditionally published is like owning a mink coat or, for you fellows, like sitting in the sky box at a sporting event.  You think it’s such a big deal, until you own a mink coat (or sit in a sky box once or twice), and then you find out that it’s not such a big deal after all.  Being traditionally published is the same thing.
It's never been as easy or as inexpensive to be a published author, so carpe diem everyone!
